Will duck replace chicken in Côte d’Ivoire? Marie-Aurore ANELONE KOUA believes strongly it will, and she clearly succeeded in convincing the jury at the pitch competition organised as a prelude to the EIB Academy for SME Banking and Microfinance on 13 and 14 September 2023 in Abidjan.
Created in 2017, Kefa Farm specialises in the production, processing and marketing of duck meat. Thanks to specially adapted facilities and a qualified technical team, the farm controls its production chain from start to finish: feed manufacture, chick production, rearing, slaughtering, plucking, cutting and processing into by-products. One of the farm’s key success factors is to offer quality duck at a price well below that of imported products.
In addition to its contribution to employment in the surrounding communities, both directly and indirectly through the support it provides to local duck breeders, Kefa Farm provides free waste from its production to nearby planters, which can then be used as natural fertiliser. The use of solar energy for its electricity supply and compressed earth bricks for the construction of its buildings also reflect its desire to play a responsible role in its environment.
The award money of the Responsible and Inclusive Entrepreneurship, sponsored by Baobab Côte d’Ivoire, will enable Ferme Kefa to finance additional equipment to help it grow its business and promote duck in Côte d’Ivoire cuisine.
