Do you know claclo? Ms Laetitia Mobio explained how she intends to revolutionise the market for this delicacy, which is very popular with Ivorians, to the members of the jury at the pitch competition organised as a prelude to the EIB Academy for SME Banking and Microfinance on 13 and 14 September 2023 in Abidjan.
Claclo is a plantain-based fritter, usually sold on street corners, the availability of which depends on the seasonality of banana production. Laetitia MOBIO, promoter of the AYÔFÈ CHEZ LYS restaurant, identified the potential for selling claclo at affordable prices throughout the year and set about developing a deep-freezing process to preserve and process plantains during periods of abundance. The result is quick and easy-to-prepare frozen claclo, available to consumers and restaurants, direct from the manufacturer, online or through the distribution network of commercial partners.
AYÔFÈ CHEZ LYS plans to use the prize money from the Project with the Greatest Potential award, sponsored by COFINA Côte d’Ivoire, to equip its food processing unit and move from small-scale to semi-industrial production. Productivity will be improved and the drudgery of work reduced, paving the way for greater commercial development.
